“Edge” makes rookie test pilot invincible…almost!

Waite Davis feels elated to be hired by Walker Aircraft Company as an experimental test pilot. Having been a Navy Ensign fighter pilot, he wants to continue flying at the end of WWII. And for Walker, the timing is ideal as the Navy and Marines are requesting more fighter planes, and the demand for the Hawk (named used in novel for F4U Corsair) is immense.

test-pilotWaite’s aeronautical engineering degree plus his naval experience give him the confidence to be able to perform well at this job. However, going from rookie to pro demanded an “edge.” The many external forces which challenge him are foreboding. He immediately senses one of the experimental aircrafts is an ominous and mysterious plane. His suspicions are confirmed by the fate of some of the test pilots. Furthermore, he discovers espionage happening within the company, and he must always be watching his “back side.” The perplexities continue when three very different women enter his life, and he realizes all of them have some qualities he is seeking. But factoring in the life expectancy of a test pilot, he understands that he should not hurt them by engaging in a relationship with any of them. Can he resist, though? And finally, he must deal with his parents who beg him numerous times to abandon this high-risk, life-threatening job and return home to the family business.

Waite is mentored by three spiritual people who direct him with making decisions and who guide him in analyzing his values. Their influence and the situations which then maneuver their lives impact Waite immensely. Now Waite is faced with seemingly insurmountable obstacles, and he discovers that he must prioritize his commitments based on the truths he has learned.
